Cold Cuts

Isn't it funny how our memory works?

When I was a kid, we were dirt poor. There were 7 of us living in a 2 bedroom/1 bath home. We were skinny because food was scarce (and because my mother was a terrible cook.) We wore clothes bought at yard sales and donated by neighbors because The Goodwill was too expensive.

I remember watching an episode of "Highway to Heaven" with Michael Landon. In this particular episode, Michael Landon's traveling companion was being robbed while he was grocery shopping. He was trying to convince the burglars that it should be obvious that he had no money. He wasn't buying high end groceries...he said something along the lines of "Can't you see I have no money? I'm buying cold cuts!"

I was shocked! In my family, cold cuts were like a rare expensive treat. And by cold cuts, I mean a $0.99 pack of bologna. It was in that moment, that I think I realized how poor we truly were.

It saddens me to see other people take things for granted. I'm glad I grew up in poverty. I will never take anything for granted. Ever.

U are right . We should never forget our sufferings. I have heard a quote
"God brings us in deep waters not to drown us but to cleanse us ."

Hmmm..there were 7 in Aaron's family, and they were also very, very poor. Are you sure you aren't his sister?!
