Year 40

It's been a while, pull up a chair. I will overwhelm you with my life's excitement by babbling incomprehensibly.

Today is my first day of school. I'm absolutely terrified. I haven't been to school since my short stint at community college before I met my ex-husband. I don't know if my brain can handle new material.

My left hearing aid is out. My audiologist sent it in for repairs. Again. My first experience with hearing aids has been a bust. Thankfully they are under warranty. I don't expect they'll work beyond that time period. They don't even work now.

I'm extra nervous about school because I expect I won't be able to hear the professor. I imagine it's kind of like being a student that speaks a foreign language. I can't understand the teacher anymore than they can, and I speak English.

I've lost 26 pounds since 10/09. Yes, I'm bragging. Let me have my moment.

I know, I know. You can't tell, I can't even tell. I've got 25-30 to go. I joined Weight Watchers in 10/09 and lost 19 pounds. Then I quit and regained 10. I thought I could do it alone. I couldn't.

I joined again in 10/10 and I'm down another 17. It really is a lifestyle change. I haven't had a cheese enchilada in 4 months, and I honestly don't miss them. Yes, I could have enchiladas if I really wanted them, but I find it easiest just to avoid them altogether. I don't want to get into the habit of eating poorly again.

I've also been doing a small bit of running and then going to boot camp 3 times a week (mostly). I don't know why I keep going. It's the most brutal work out I've ever endured. Jerome has no mercy, but Ivan is a wonderful motivator. It's a good combo.

My 40th year is turning out to be a good one.

I'm very proud of you for keeping with WW. You're doing great!

And it has been a great year so far!

When did you buy your hearing aids? They shouldn't break down so quickly… Unless they are Phonak.

Also, be sure to get an FM assistive device from the school, as Life Is Easy with FM

By the way, my friend Sarah "Speak Up Librarian" wrote this article on the FM system I recommended for her to use at work as a librarian, and she loves it!

Also, are you a member of Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) yet? If not, you really should join, as they have several local chapters in the DFW area.

I have Oticons. I got them in 09/10. The right one is great. The left one has been replaced once already.
